Baralacha Pass Tour
Baralacha La (or Baralacha Pass) is the most formidable. Standing at 4,890 meters (16,043 ft) on the Manali-Leh Highway, it is a high-altitude plateau where the Zanskar, Pir Panjal and Great Himalayan ranges meet.
Baralacha Pass Tour
Baralacha La, often simply called Baralacha Pass. Standing at a staggering altitude of 4,890 meters (16,040 feet), Baralacha La is a high mountain pass in the Zanskar range, acting as a natural bridge between the Lahaul Valley in Himachal and the Ladakh region. Known as the "Pass where mountains meet," it is the point where the paths from Spiti, Ladakh and Lahaul converge. This tour is famous for its "deep-freeze" beauty, featuring walls of snow that often persist well into the summer and the hauntingly beautiful high- altitude lakes that surround it.
Tour Itinerary
Manali to Solang Valley
Your expedition to Baralacha Pass begins with a scenic drive from the bustling streets of Manali toward the iconic Solang Valley. Solang Valley, often referred to as the “Adventure Capital of Himachal Pradesh,” is a side valley at the top of the Kullu Valley. Located about 14 km from Manali, it sits at an elevation of approximately 2,560 meters (8,400 ft) and serves as the primary playground for snow enthusiasts and adrenaline junkies. It is the venue for Adventure Activities such as Ropeway Joyride, Paragliding & other adventure games.
Solang Valley to Atal Tunnel
Leaving the adventure hubs of Solang Valley behind, the road begins a winding ascent through a pristine alpine landscape toward the Atal Tunnel. The Atal Tunnel is a 9.02 km long engineering masterpiece that has fundamentally changed the travel landscape of North India. It holds the record as the world’s longest highway tunnel above 10,000 feet (3,048 meters). By cutting through the Pir Panjal range of the Himalayas, it bypasses the treacherous Rohtang Pass, turning what was once a 4 to 5-hour dangerous climb into a safe 30-minute drive.
Atal Tunnel to Sissu
Emerging from the Atal Tunnel, you are immediately greeted by the breathtaking, sun-drenched vistas of the Lahaul Valley. The drive to Sissu is a short but spectacular run along the banks of the Chandra River.
Sissu, also known as Khwaling, is the first major village you encounter after exiting the Atal Tunnel into the Lahaul Valley. Located at an altitude of 3,120 meters, it has shifted from a quiet summer transit point to a premier year-round destination for snow lovers.

Sissu to Keylong
Leaving the beauty of Sissu behind, the journey continues to Keylong. Keylong is more than just a transit stop on the Manali-Leh Highway; it is a destination where nature meets deep-rooted Himalayan spirituality. As the administrative center of the Lahaul Valley, it offers a unique blend of modern convenience and ancient Tibetan-Buddhist heritage.
Keylong to Jispa
The drive from Keylong to Jispa is one of the most relaxing and visually stunning stretches of the Lahaul Valley. Jispa is arguably the most beautiful and serene riverside village in the Lahaul Valley. Located at an altitude of 3,200 meters (10,500 ft) along the banks of the Bhaga River, it has become the preferred overnight stop for travelers on the Manali–Leh highway.
Jispa to Darcha
The journey continues to Darcha. Darcha is a small but strategically vital settlement in the Lahaul Valley, situated at an altitude of 3,360 meters (11,020 ft) on the banks of the Bhaga River. It is famously known as the northernmost permanent settlement in Himachal Pradesh along the Manali-Leh Highway.
Darcha to Deepak Tal
Leaving Darcha, the road begins a dramatic climb into the upper reaches of the Himalayas. The highlight of this leg is the sudden appearance of Deepak Tal. Deepak Tal is a high-altitude glacial lake situated at approximately 3,750 meters (12,300 ft) in the Lahaul Valley. While smaller than its “big brother” Suraj Tal, it is famous for its crystal-clear turquoise waters and its perfect, mirror-like reflections of the surrounding peaks.
Deepak Tal to Zing Zing Bar
The journey from Deepak Tal to Zing Zing Bar is the definitive gateway to the high-altitude wonders of the Baralacha La. Zing Zing Bar is not a nightlife spot—it is a vital high-altitude way station and an iconic rest point for travelers tackling the legendary Baralacha Pass. Located at a staggering altitude of 4,270 meters (14,010 feet) in the Lahaul and Spiti district, it serves as the ultimate staging ground where the air gets thin and the landscape turns into a majestic, stark-white wilderness.
Zing Zing Bar to Suraj Tal
The journey from Zing Zing Bar to Suraj Tal is the most exhilarating climb of the Baralacha Pass tour. Suraj Tal, which translates to the “Lake of the Sun God,” is a high-altitude glacial lake situated at a staggering 4,890 meters (16,043 ft). It holds the prestigious title of being the third-highest lake in India and the 21st-highest in the world. The sight of the lake’s crystal-clear, turquoise waters reflecting the surrounding snow-capped peaks is a spiritual and visual highlight for every traveler.
Suraj Tal to Baralacha Pass
The final push from Suraj Tal to the Baralacha La summit is the breathtaking climax of your journey. Though the distance is short—only about 3 to 5 km—this stretch takes you to the literal "top of the world". Baralacha La, meaning "Pass with crossroads on high," is a unique high-mountain plateau where the paths from Zanskar, Ladakh and Spiti meet. It is a legendary high-altitude pass at 4,890 meters (16,043 feet) in the Zanskar range. This segment feels like driving through a pristine white cathedral of ice; even in peak summer, massive snow walls often line the road and the silence of the high altitude is broken only by the whistling Himalayan winds.
